I’m proud to be from the Malayalam film industry: Parvathy on National Award

Sekhar Kapoor spoke highly about your performance, Take- Off and Malayalam cinema when announcing the awards…

 It was extremely heartwarming to hear Shekhar Kapur speak of the movie, speak of my performance and speak of Malayalam cinema this way.
It makes this award even more special when you have an incredible jury speak about your work in superlatives and mentioning how Malayalam cinema has contributed so much to Indian cinema with regard to content and being mindful of what stories are made, specially the visual grammar. Malayalam cinema has always been ahead in that sense. And for that matter, I’m proud to be from the Malayalam film industry, and in effect, to be part of the Indian film industry through Malayalam.

 

 

You were competition for Sreedevi for Best Actress…

I’m happy and honoured to be considered in the same category. But I can’t see Sreedevi as competition, I can only aspire to do what she has done, dedicate her entire life herself to this craft. I definitely hope that as we go forward, Malayalam cinema will continue to be on the frontline representing Indian cinema on the international level.

You stuck to Malayalam even after getting hits here...Do you feel the patience paid off?

I have never felt that doing films in another industry meant that I won’t be part of one industry. I want to be part of any film industry which makes good, meaningful cinema. But I have always been extra proud of the Malayalam industry. As a Malayali, by default I will always be a Malayalam actress. I will find my way back to Malayalam cinema, will always come back home, no matter where I go.

What do you look forward to?

It took me exactly 12 years to get to where I am now. I’ve never really defined ambition, my only hope is that I continue to work with the same faith and determination for the next 12 years as well, if I’m around for that long! I consider all the accolades coming my way as a great push and encouragement in that direction.
